What Actually Happens After You Upload Your Prescription?

Inside Our Manchester Lab
Hit the submit button? Great. Now, we know that for a lot of people, that moment can feel like sending your vision into a bit of a digital black hole. You might be wondering: Who actually sees it? Is it checked properly? Does it meet the real-world British standards your eyes deserve?
At Sapphire Optics, we don’t believe in leaving your vision to chance or an automated bot. Here is exactly what happens the second your order lands on our workbench.
Phase 1: The Human Review
Your prescription isn't scanned by a piece of software and shoved onto a conveyor belt. It is looked at by a real person with years of experience. In fact, our head lab technician has been in the optical business for over 30 years-there isn't much he hasn't seen.
We manually check that:
-
Every value and measurement is present and correct.
-
The numbers actually make sense together (no impossible prescriptions here).
-
The lenses you have picked are a perfect match for the data you have uploaded.
If something looks a bit 'off' or incomplete, we don't just guess. We pause the order and reach out to you for a chat. We would much rather get it right than get it fast.
Phase 2: The Precision Check
Next, we look at the finer details that make the difference between glasses that work and glasses that feel invisible.
This includes:
-
Your PD (Pupillary Distance): Making sure the optical centre of the lens sits exactly where your pupil does.
-
Fitting Measurements: Absolutely vital for Bifocals and Varifocals to make sure your switch between distances is seamless.
-
Frame Suitability: We check that your chosen frame can comfortably handle your lens thickness and the coatings you have picked.
Phase 3: In-House Glazing
Once we are 100% happy, your lenses are glazed right here in our Manchester lab. We don't outsource your vision to a massive factory overseas. By keeping it in-house, we maintain total control. We handle the precision cutting and fitting ourselves to ensure the highest level of accuracy and a finish we are proud to put our name on.
Phase 4: The Final Inspection
Before your glasses are tucked into their case, they go through one last rigorous quality check. Our dispatch team carries out a final inspection to confirm:
-
The finished prescription matches your original upload perfectly.
-
The lenses are securely and flawlessly fitted into the frames.
-
There are zero scratches or imperfections. If it isn't perfect, it doesn't leave the lab.
Clear Vision Should Feel Reassuring
Ordering glasses online shouldn’t feel like a leap of faith. Our process is designed to give you total confidence that your eyewear is being handled with the same care you would expect from a high-street optician, but with the comfort of your own sofa.
If you ever have a question about your prescription, we are always here to help.
FAQs
Who actually checks my prescription?
A real human being with decades of optical experience. We don't rely on automated systems to read your prescription. Every order is checked manually, then verified with a lensometer to confirm the fitted lenses match your prescription exactly.
What happens if I’ve made a mistake on my upload?
Don't panic! We catch almost all data entry errors during our review phase. If a number looks physically impossible, we will contact you before we even think about cutting a lens.
Do you check if my lenses will be too thick for my frame?
Yes. If we think your prescription needs a thinner lens to look its best in your chosen frame, we will let you know. You can decide if you would like to upgrade to High-Index lenses to better suit your frame.
Will my order be delayed if you need to check something?
It might add a day or two, but we believe a small delay is better than sending you glasses that aren't quite right. Accuracy is always our priority.
Can I get help before I buy?
Absolutely. You can send us a photo of your prescription before you even place an order, and we will be happy to guide you on which lenses will suit you best.
