Custom Lens Tinting: Can We Match Your Favourite Sunglasses?
Share
We’ve all been there-you have a pair of sunglasses that fit your face perfectly, and the lens colour is just right. But then your prescription changes, or the lenses get a nasty scratch, and you’re told you have to buy a whole new pair.
At Sapphire Optics, we don’t think you should have to say goodbye to your favourite frames. Our Manchester lab specialises in custom lens tinting. Whether you want to replicate a classic look or create something entirely unique, we’ve got the technical expertise and 30 years of experience to make it happen.
At a glance:
Custom lens tinting allows you to recreate or personalise the colour of your sunglasses while updating your prescription lenses. Sapphire Optics offers in-house tint matching and bespoke options through its Manchester lab.
What Exactly is a Lens Tint Service?
Tinting isn't just about making lenses dark; it’s about precision. Our technicians can treat your prescription lenses to achieve the exact level of shade and "vibe" you’re looking for. We offer a massive range of fashion and functional colours, including:
-
Classic Tints: Grey, Brown, and the iconic G-15 (the green-grey mix popularised by Ray-Ban).
-
Fashion Tints: Pink, Purple, Blue, and Orange.
-
Gradient Tints: Darker at the top and lighter at the bottom—perfect for driving or reading your phone outdoors.
The "Match My Tint" Guarantee
This is where our lab really shines. If you’re using our Reglaze Only service, you can send us your old lenses, and our technicians will work to closely match the original colour. It’s the perfect way to keep the look you love while updating your vision with a new prescription or fresh, scratch-free lenses.
Why Choose a Custom Tint?
Aside from looking great, tinted lenses are a functional powerhouse:
-
UV Protection: Protects your eyes from harmful UV rays.
-
Glare Reduction: Essential for driving and overall outdoor comfort.
-
Visual Clarity: Gradient tints are a lifesaver for those who find full-dark sunglasses a bit too heavy for overcast UK days but still want protection.
FAQ
What shade tints do you offer?
We offer a wide range of fashion and functional colours, including Grey, Brown, Green, Pink, Purple, Blue, Orange, and the classic G-15.
Can any prescription be tinted?
In almost every case, yes! We can tint standard lenses and even thinner high-index lenses, so your sunglasses stay sleek and lightweight even with a stronger prescription.
Can I have a "Double-Shade" or custom gradient?
Absolutely. We’ve created some really unique bespoke tints in our time-one of our personal favourites was a purple-to-pink gradient. If you want a specific "fashion" tint, just get in touch.
Will my new lenses look exactly like the old ones?
We aim for a very close match. Because different lens materials can take up pigment slightly differently, there might be a microscopic variation, but our 30 years of experience means we get it as close as humanly possible.
What is a G-15 tint?
It’s the gold standard of sunglass colours. Originally made famous by Ray-Ban, it’s a green-grey mix that reduces glare while keeping colours looking totally natural. It’s a classic for a reason.
