New Glasses: When to Wait and When to Contact Our Lab
Share
Putting on a brand-new pair of glasses is exciting, but it can also feel a bit... weird. Maybe the ground feels slightly closer than it used to, or your eyes feel a bit tired after an hour. If you’ve ordered online for the first time, it’s natural to wonder: Is this right?
At Sapphire Optics, we want you to love your vision. Most "strange" feelings are just your brain recalibrating to your new lenses, but some signs are worth a quick chat with our team. Here is how to tell the difference.
At a glance:
It’s normal for new glasses to feel slightly unusual during the first 7–14 days as your eyes adjust. Sapphire Optics advises allowing time for this adjustment, but to contact the lab if discomfort, blur, or headaches persist.
When It’s Normal to Wait (The Adjustment Period)
Your brain is a powerful processor, and it takes time to "update the software" when you get a new prescription or a different lens type (like switching to Varifocals). It is perfectly normal to experience the following for the first 7 to 14 days:
-
Mild Eye Fatigue: Your eye muscles are learning a new way to focus.
-
Slight Depth Perception Shifts: The fishbowl effect where straight lines look slightly curved.
-
The Unfamiliar Feeling: Your vision is clearer, but it feels different from your old pair.
Pro-Tip: Avoid toggling between your old and new glasses. Switching back and forth only confuses your brain and resets the adjustment clock!
When You Should Get in Touch
We’d always rather double-check your order than have you struggle. You should reach out to our Manchester lab team if:
-
No Improvement After 14 Days: If you’ve worn them consistently for two weeks and it still feels "off."
-
Persistent Headaches: If the "tiredness" turns into sharp or worsening pain.
-
Consistently Blurry Vision: If the lenses simply don’t feel sharp, no matter how much you "settle" into them.
-
Physical Discomfort: If the frames are pinching or sitting unevenly on your face.
FAQ
How can I contact Sapphire Optics?
To keep our lab running efficiently and our prices low, we don't offer phone support. However, we are incredibly responsive via Email, our Contact Us form, and our Live Web Chat.
What is the quickest way to get a reply?
Our Web Chat is usually the fastest way to get an answer. If we're busy in the lab and miss you, we check emails constantly throughout the day and aim to get back to you as soon as humanly possible.
Is it okay to ask for reassurance even if I’m unsure?
100% yes. Contacting us doesn’t mean something has gone wrong-it just means you want peace of mind. We are experts in optics, and often a quick bit of advice is all you need to feel confident in your new vision.
What if my prescription was entered incorrectly?
Don't panic. If you think there was a typo during your order, just send us a photo of your original prescription and we will help you figure out the next steps.
